Importing Vechicles into Canada
New Vehicles:
- Transport Canada regulates vehicles safety
- New vehicles must meet Canadian Standards & have safety mark (Passenger Door)
Used Vehicles:
- Importation depends on country of manufacture, model, and Age of vehicle
- Over 15 years old vehicles exempt from Registrar of Vehicles (RIV)
- If exempt from RIV must still meet Provincial Safety Requirements
RIV Process:
- The original certificate of title for your vehicle must be submitted to U.S. Customs at least 72 hours before the vehicle is exported from the United States
- The vehicle must be presented to U.S. Customs at the time of exportation.
- Must have proof of Ownership & prior registration
- Fill out Vehicle Import Form cost is $182.00 (Form # 13-0132)
- Customs will check model list to make sure it’s acceptable to be imported
- RIV will give importer notice of what needs to be done to car before it can be licensed in Canada
- Car must be safeted in Canada
- Client pays applicable Duties & Taxes
Wrecks, Scrap Vehicles:
Customs needs to ensure Vehicle is not Salvageable
